Volkswagen Motorsport has joined forces with the FIA’s Women & Motor Sport Commission to help develop new female talent in the sport. Working in association with the FIA’s National Sporting Authorities (ASNs), Volkswagen Motorsport will provide a car for a full season for a young woman to contest the 2011 Scirocco R-Cup.
2009 an agreement was reached between the parties with purpose that Charlotte Haegermark would promote Applicate’s services in a different and innovative way through her karting efforts. In addition, she organized two gokart events for Applicate’s customers.
4th-7th of March, Charlotte went to the small town Oberjoch in south Germany to attend Volkswagen Fitness Camp together with their Formula 3 and Scirocco drivers. Also, 11th-12th of March she participated in Volkswagens Drivers Selection to Scirocco R-Cup 2010 and their Touring Car School at the racingtrack in Oschersleben, Germany.
11th-13th of September the biggest karting race in Scandinavia was held. 35 drivers in the fastest class, KZ2, were present at the track. The conditions were dry and sunny all weekend, but temperatures fell quickly after the sun set. Charlotte had overall a good race despite problems with the tire pressure in the Final.
On 3rd-5th of July the third race in the German Championship was held. 39 drivers in the KZ2 class were in place on the demanding track in Ampfing. The weather conditions changed over the weekend and three races were run on wet track. Charlotte went further from an exciting Second Chance to Sunday's Final, where she finished in the best place so far in the championship, 23rd place.
The second race in the German championship in KZ2 was held on Prokart Raceland in Wackersdorf 29th-31st of May. 30 guest drivers from the European Championship series were in place for the opportunity to practice before the European Championship race on the same track in June. This would be Charlotte’s toughest race ever because of international top drivers and the 66 drivers in total.
The first race in the German KZ2 Championship was run on the extremely fast track at Oschersleben on April 24th-26th. The competition was tough with 20 drivers from the European Championship and all together including 134 drivers from 19 countries.
In 2008 she raced in the German Championship in the shifter class KZ2 in tough competition against some of the best drivers in Europe. This year she makes her second year in the series.
